When did you mail the 2019 tax return? Did you use a tracking service from the US post office so that you have verification it was received by the IRS?
A 2019 tax refund will not be available on the IRS tax refund status website.
If it has been 4 weeks or longer since you mailed the 2019 federal tax return, then give the IRS a call for the status.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.
Note - If you mailed the 2019 tax return with a tax refund after July 17, 2023 and you did not request an extension for the 2019 tax return, the tax refund has been forfeited. You had to file the 2019 return within 3 years from the original due date of the 2019 return, July 17, 2020.
Yes I sent it certified both times, the first being by the deadline and then had it returned as the tax agent left out paperwork. Rectified all issues and certified mail once again. I’ve not yet checked my tracking due to not remembering where my safe won’t forget spot I placed it! Did speak with a very argumentative person Friday who while I was pleasant all thru out our conversation and tried explaining in the best laymen’s terminology I felt she could even follow I was mistaken and bid her a good weekend and that I would just wait to call another day to speak with someone who was more knowledgeable at the their job?
