I am trying to amend my federal tax return to adjust the FMV on form 6251. I have completed the change in the online portal, but the preview of my amended return's 1040-X does not include the updated form. There will be no difference in tax due from this change, however I want to ensure I have the correct/updated form for future use (sale of the stock).
Am I doing something wrong? If I submit the e-amend, will I get the updated form?

If there are no changes to the return on a 1040X do NOT file it ... it will just be ignored. Correct the FMV on a future return where it will make a difference.
Thank you. It seems I shouldn't even have had a 6251 after all. I noticed my 2019 return had the 6251 worksheet while 2020 did not (exercised ISOs in each year, but no AMT was due) but seems neither had the actual 6251 itself.
So perhaps in that case, the 1st time the IRS will formally get FMV data from me is when I sell these shares, and there won't be info in past returns that would conflict.
Yippee!
