The depends, did you e-file your tax return? If not, two pages is the minimum for a federal return, so that would not include a state tax return.
I have no idea what I did. I just followed directions on here and it says congrats you filed! But did I? The 2 pages of paper (printed on just one paper) was mailed in to the address provided but it was the federal and I have no idea about the state part. I just thought it was weird but this is my first time doing them alone.
Federal and state returns get mailed to completely separate addresses in separate envelopes. So if you did not mail something to your state you have not filed a state return.
As for your federal return--we cannot see what you put in the envelope. Did you sign it and write the date on a line that said "Sign here?" Did you attach your W-2 to the side of the paper?
We wish confused people would ask questions BEFORE they just go ahead and do stuff without understanding what they are doing.....
It appears that you may not have prepared your state tax return. To prepare your state tax return follow these steps.
I just followed the directions on the site and it said you filed! Congrats!
But that’s when I realized there was only the federal. There wasn’t info on state I guess. I’m in Florida so I’m not sure if that matters bc we don’t pay some taxes
Also, I wasn’t confused when I was doing it. I just followed the directions till it said you finished it. I printed it and signed it and didn’t attach a w2 bc I’m disabled.
@Gttmich We wish we could see what you mailed but of course we cannot. If you printed out a Form 1040 and mailed it to the IRS then the IRS will either mail it back to you and request your W-2 that you did not attach, or maybe they will process without it--we do not know. Or do you mean you do not get a W-2 ---because you did not work -- you received disability benefits or some other form of income? We cannot tell what you mean.
You can start watching the IRS site to see what they are doing with your mailed return four weeks after you mail it.
TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 20 of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
In the FILE tab step 3 ... did you click on the orange TRANSMIT NOW button ? If not then you did not efile so you must have chosen to mail in the return and the filing instruction page that is in the PDF of the return file would have told you what to mail where ... if you still need to file a state return it will also need to be mailed in ... follow the other instructions.
@Critter later in the thread the user indicated they live in FL--so no state return.
