After efiling, how soon you get the acknowledgement e-mail that your tax return was received by the IRS

Lets say I efiled tax return today using a UTAX software - I did not receive any email staring that your return was transmitted.

Usually with turbotax - you get an email right away stating that your return was transmitted to IRS and than comes another email (not sure after how much time) that your return was accepted by IRS.

So after how many hours/days we get this email about IRS receipt?

Sometimes you get an email within an hour or two--sometimes it takes a couple of days, depending on how many frantic people are e-filing at the deadline.

Did you e-file?  Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

If the IRS accepted it, what does it say here?

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Or does your account say “Ready to Mail?”

Note:  If it says “Ready to Mail” or “Printed” that means YOU have to mail it yourself.  TurboTax does not mail your tax return for you.

If you are filing with uTax Software you have to ask uTax Support what kind of acknowledgement you get, and when you should expect to get it. This community is for helping people file their tax returns with TurboTax.

@rjs See user's other post---he is in a "race" of sorts to efile  using TT in case his paid preparer misses the deadline.
