Form 8829 in 2025 Home and Business Desktop - Property tax cell incorrectly configured

I just did it and it worked.  Thank you so much for this solution.  I have been spending countless hours on this issue.

Same error here. Hopefully this is fixed soon, as I can't e-file with this error.

When I try including property tax for the home office as a direct expense (after multiplying by business percentage), it messes up the value for the Tax and Interest Deduction Worksheet (Tax & Int Wks), line 2f, which then flows in incorrectly to Sch A. If I override line 2f, I can't e-file.

As hfluss posted, add supporting details for the RE taxes (line 2a), list the total paid, and then subtract the 8829 amount.  This worked for me.

Since your Real Estate taxes are over $10,000, $0 should be entered on line 11.  So where you are entering the full amount of your property taxes in the home office section, this should be blank or $0.  The instructions for form 8829 state

Real estate taxes reported on line 11. If you are claiming the standard deduction, do not report an amount on line 11. If you itemize your deductions, figure the amount to include on line 11 as follows. Step 1. If the total of your state and local income (or if elected on your Schedule A, general sales) taxes, real estate taxes, and personal property taxes is not more than $10,000 ($5,000 if married filing separately), enter all the real estate taxes attributable to the home in which you conducted business in column (b) of line 11. Step 2. If you do not meet the condition of Step 1, use the following worksheet to figure the amount to include in column (a) of line 11.

You would need to use the worksheet on page 4 of the instructions for form 8829 to calculate the real estate taxes and then enter them on line 17 of your form 8829 or in the step by step mode as Excess Real Estate Taxes.  Once completing this worksheet and entering the amount as excess real estate taxes, you will be able to file your return.

This is a known issue in TurboTax and we are working to resolve it as soon as possible. As soon as we have a resolution for you, we will update you in this Community thread.

In the meantime, you may file a request for extension of time to file or file now and amend later. You also have the option to manually override numbers on forms in TurboTax Desktop and file by mail (overriding calculations invalidates the TurboTax Accuracy Guarantee).
