Adjusted AGI

In 2018, the IRS adjusted (changed) my AGI due to a calculation error on my part. I accepted their correction. What figure should I use in reporting my 2018 AGI as I E-file my 2019 taxes. The one I submitted on my original 2018 filing, or the adjusted figure that I accepted calculated by the IRS?

If the IRS adjusted your 2018 AGI prior to November 2019, I would use the adjusted figure first. If they reject the return, I would try the original figure.

If you 2018 AGI was adjusted in November 2019 I would try the unadjusted (original) figure first, then switch to the adjusted figure if rejected.

Yes try one.  If they reject that one try the other.  If they still reject it then try 0.  If it doesn't like any of them you will have to print and mail your return.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return. Don’t forget state.

Important! Mail Federal and State in separate envelopes and mail each year in separate envelopes.
