Looks like your post has a typo - `8 year old daughter
Assume you meant an 18 year old daughter. Need more information.
How does an 18 year old pay for all of the education expenses, housing expenses, utility expenses, transportation expenses, food expenses, clothing expenses and insurance expenses (either medical or vehicle)?
She has a full time job that she pays her way with. She pays ALL her expenses on her own. Tuition, food, rent for her apartment, utilities. Has her own car insurance policy now and we help her pay on that. Doesn't have a car payment it is paid off and owned by her.
has her own medical insurance through her full time job
@tonihunter89 Since she has a full time job then she should be having federal income taxes withheld from her wages. She will have to file a federal tax return reporting all of her W-2 income and the federal tax payments that were paid. She will be able to enter her education expenses and be eligible for the American Opportunity Tax Credit on her return which will give her up to a $2,500 credit on her federal tax return.
so instead of us getting to claim that on ours while she is in college ...we don't really lose it because she will still be allowed to claim it on hers? That is a relief ..thank you!
