414H

I have income from New York & my wife has income from NJ.  My wife is a public employee & has her pension contribution amount listed as 414h in Box 14 of her W2.  None of the Box 14 Turbo Tax drop down menu  categories is applicable for my wife's 414h.  So I used the last category - OTHER.  I do not get any errors until I am ready to file electronically all three forms (Federal, NY State & NJ State).  At that point Turbo Tax indicates that I cannot file NY State form electronically because I did not indicate whether or not 414h (which is from New Jersey) is subject to NY State Tax.  Please keep in  mind, there no applicable categories in Turbo Tax Box 14.    (Perhaps, NJ 414h not subjet to NY State Tax should be added to drop down menu categories??).  This amount is added as NJ Income & it is part of NJ taxable income.   Is there any way I still could file NY State Form Electronically?  Thanks.

If you are using the CD/Download version of TurboTax, you can indicate whether the 414h entry is taxable by going into Forms Mode.  Please follow these steps:

  1. Go into Forms Mode by clicking on the Forms icon in the top right of the blue bar
  2. In the Forms in My Return list on the left, click the W-2 form you want to review.  The form will appear on the right side of the screen.
  3. Scroll down to Box 14.  In the box, TurboTax Identification of Description or Code, you can select from the list whether it is taxable or not.  (See screenshot below.)
  4. To return to the interview, click on the Step-By-Step icon in the top right of the blue bar.
