Installed from CDROM, supposed to get login screen as listed here but instead there are indefinitely dancing four blue dots in the area where login should be.

Both links provided are not anywhere near applicable. Have you read my problem description carefully?
1. I did install correctly by dragging into proper application icon, have been using TT for 10+ years.
2. I did click on allow to let application start. I repeat, it does start correctly, even loads all federal and state updates but does not display login dialog, observing macOS CrashReport running in the background.
