2023 Business Loss Return

I’m an LLC, S-Corp since October 2021 where I am 90% owner and my spouse is 10%.

I own an e-commerce business.

I received a 1099-K from Etsy for 2024.

I didn’t receive a 1099-K from Etsy or from Shopify for 2023 and didn’t file a business return for 2023.

Could I and should I still file my LLC, S-Corp for the losses/expenses for 2023?

I had an accountant file a 2022 return (the very first business return) at a loss and carried the loss backwards a few years although it didn’t work because they were going to use the Cares Act combined with the Jobs Act of 2017, and it had already expired.  They filed it as a loss.

Thank you and I look forward to your reply!

2023 Business Loss Return

Yes, you need to file a 2023 return for your business. S-corporations must file a tax return, even if it was inactive or didn't receive income.

You can file the return by downloading TurboTax Business software for 2023.
