I submitted my Son's Admended Taxes on March 20, 2022 (I forgot to check the box to state he was dependent on me). When I check the status of the taxes it continues to say it has not been processed and when I call the IRS I cannot ever talk to anyone. Also, since My Sons Taxes are not completed I cannot get my refund on my IRS and NC taxes ($4,000). Do you have any idea on what is going on?

This could be a little complicated depending on whose return you originally filed first. Rather than go through all the possibilities could you provide more information on the time line of the returns you filed?
Thanks for the info. That helps.
First, be aware that the IRS web site states they are taking 20 weeks to process amended returns and in many case much longer.
Since your son never received the refund claimed on the original return it is an indication this return was not fully processed. IRS advises amended returns not be filed until any tax is paid or refund is received. If an amended return gets filed before the original refund goes out it can further delay processing.
It is likely your return was rejected for efile because you were claiming your son as a dependent and IRS records were showing he had filed a return claiming himself.
Unfortunately, you may be caught in a cath-22 situation for a while. IRS won't process your return & refund because they have a return from your son claiming himself. The amended return is not correcting the situation because his original return is being held up.
The situation will eventually clear up but I'm afraid it may take a while. In the interim you probably have to wait until IRS sends out a notice. It is very difficult to connect with anyone at IRS but you could keep trying to call. Best bet is calling at 7 AM. You may have better luck connecting with NC and at least clearing that up.
This situation is probably going to require a great deal of patience on your behalf. You tried to do the right thing and make a quick correction. I'm sorry I do not have any better news. I wish you the best.
