The sale would have to be related to a rental or business to be reportable on form 4797. If you look on the Installment Sale Income form 6252 in TurboTax, in the General Information Smart Worksheet you will have to see box A with a "Yes" answer to have form 4797 populated.
I double checked that box A is checked, still no luck and to top that off TurboTax now crashes and will not load in my profile. Created new profile and it will load there.
The solution to my problem was to delete the 6252 and start over without importing data from 2019. This required referring back to 2019 taxes and inputting the data manually. If the data was imported from the 2019 form 6252 it would not would not carry over to 4797. I even tried deleting 2020 and reinstalling. No luck. Then I ended up with TT crashing upon opening which required deleting the program again and deleting numerous files scattered throughout my hard drive. I upgraded to Premier thinking that would solve the problem and imported from 2019 it still would not work so I deleted the 6252 and input data from 2019 manually. I had purchased state electronic filing and once I completed taxes that too did not carry over to the upgrade so had to spend an hour with 2 different tech support people to get working. This by far has been the worst version of TT I have ever used and I have been using it for years. I may look at alternative program next year.
