I'm filing a 2020 fed and state amendment (in 2023, yeah, yeah...). I've completed everything, and as I understand it, Turbotax makes it possible to e-file (at least fed).
I'm on the page "How Do You Want To Pay Your Federal Taxes" and it shows the correct amount that I owe based on my amendment.
All of my bank and personal info is pre-populated from my previously submitted return, so I've advanced through the next 4 pages in Turbotax to the "Transmit Your Returns" page. This is where I hit a snag.
I hit "Transmit Returns Now" (orange button), and the next page opens: "We Need To Make One More Check".
I hit "Continue", and the next page tells me that my signature date is 3/2/23, but must be between 1/1/20-12/31/20.
I hit "Continue", and the next page tells me that my payment date (bank wire) must be between 2/12/21 and 5/17/21. It also shows a new/different payment amount which is neither the amount I actually owe, nor the amount I originally owed (I actually got a refund originally).
Not sure what the software is doing here. It's as if it doesn't realize I'm trying to e-file an amended return, but when I started the e-file process for this amendment, the confirmation on screen did say that it was about to file my amended return. Please help.

Sorry---you cannot e-file any sort of 2020 return. E-filing is permanently closed for 2020 returns from this do-it-yourself software. The only way to file it is by mail. Only some paid tax pros who have professional tax software have the ability to e-file a past year amended return.
Why does Turbotax state that you can file amendments electronically then? https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/amend-return/how-to-correct-federal-tax-returns/L67t0F7il
"Step 2: Form 1040-X
Beginning with the 2019 tax years, amended federal returns are able to be electronically filed as long as you electronically filed the original return. If you filed your return with TurboTax, log into your account and select the tax return that you want to amend and follow the online instructions. For paper-filing amended returns, download a copy of IRS Form 1040-X, Amended U.S. Income Tax Return. You can easily find it at the IRS website."
And....as just explained to you......although the IRS will accept e-filed amended returns, you do not have the capability to e-file it using this do-it-yourself tax software. If you want to pay a tax pro to prepare and e-file your amended return, you can do that. Or you can mail it if you are using TT.
