2019 tax return rejected - 8801 form update

So, I haven't heard back that my return was accepted, but I feel like it was clean this time.  (I will update later if it was rejected again.)

So, here is what I did.  I updated the tax software & forms (was already up-to-date).  Then I followed the instruction from a previous post to delete the 8801 form.  I'm not sure that did anything, but I would suggest doing it.  The key step, as mentioned by someone else above, was going back to the AMT questions.  What I missed the first time was unlike in previous years, the information from my prior (2018) tax return was not automatically transferred to Form 6251.  When I manually entered the information on Form 6251 in the AMT credit dialogue the new Form 8801 was updated correctly and I finally had an entry in Line 25.

Hope this helps.

2019 tax return rejected - 8801 form update

I managed to get TaxAct to match TurboTax exactly.  I had incorrectly entered a refund from line 3 of the 8801 (from 2018 6251) into line 2b of the 6251 for 2019.

I've resubmitted my federal return.  Hoping it goes through this time.

2019 tax return rejected - 8801 form update

TT and Group advice to delete the old form 8801 and re-enter the the 2018 AMT data worked. I resubmitted/e-filed and it was accepted by the Federal Gov. Last thing is to hear from the state of PA.

2019 tax return rejected - 8801 form update

Same experience this a.m. -- deleted old form, reentered information and it was accepted.  Three was the proverbial charm . .

2019 tax return rejected - 8801 form update

I agree, this year's TT (2019) was super annoying, it switches the desk top everytime when it does the caculations such checking for errors in the return. Even worse, after my return got rejected (because of TT bug), when I updated TT and reopened my return, after it "fixed" the errors, my refund got reduced by over $9000, and carefully looking thru the return compared to what I saved, and found out that it erased my AMT credit carry over completely!!! This is a real shame!

I had the same problem, and luckily, I was able to go thru the AMT credit interview process step by step, and found out that it erased the numbers that it is supposed to carry over from 2018 (with the updated TT), so please fill in the numbers manually from your 2018 return, and I was able to get back to my original refund number by doing this.

Thanks! I did the same and got my refund back to the original number before the "FIX" was done by TT (after updated TT for my earlier rejected return).

My new return got accepted, and clearly, it was the BUG of TT for the rejected return earlier, and even worse, the updated TT screwed my return again!

Me too. Just deleted the form 8801 and re-enter everything back. No difference in all numbers & final tax amounts from original one, remember to save a copy before deleting just in case.

Dear Experts,

can you please state when the update has occurred ?  Not just when it is expected...or planned...

turbotax original Mar 5 date turned out not to be correct, and I’d rather not have return rejected 3+ times with trial & error.

can we get a definitive statement to resolve this issue ?

If you delete the form, how does the information populate into a new form?  I need the credit on this form.

2019 tax return rejected - 8801 form update

Form 8801 line 25 is not populating with the value from either line 21 or line 24 now. This happened after this last weeks update to fix other issues that caused my return to get rejected due to a Turbo Tax bug.  I see some indications on the forum that this is scheduled to be fixed in build 20 which was suppose to be released 3/7. What is the status?  I have forced and updated and it is still listed at Version 19 on my PC, I have also deleted the form as instructed.   This is getting borderline ridiculous because Turbo Tax is suppose to make it easy and quick.  Meanwhile, I am stuck trying to get my much needed refund waiting on endless software updates.  I feel bad for all the people that just accepted the last fix and didn't check.   This new bug results in me losing over $4000 additional funds on my returns.  Makes me question if I should just go line by line on my return now to see if Turbo Tax is giving Trump a raise at my expense in other areas.    Here is the code for the software team if they are struggling  Line 25 = MIN(Line 21 Field, Line 24 Field).  Alternative:  If (Line 21 <= to Line 24 then Line 25 = Line 21 Else Line 25 = Line 24).  Should not take much debug and validation to make this happen before I have to switch to H&R Block.  If you need me to stop by and code it in the language you are using let me know.  I'll do it for free if I can get my refund this week!

When you delete the Form 8801, TT will recreate it when it needs it, which it does.

2019 tax return rejected - 8801 form update

Read my prior post.  I had the same problem and fixed it using the suggestions on this user site.

2019 tax return rejected - 8801 form update

Tried this.  In form view I wen to Forms and deleted the form.  This issue is still there when it regenerates the form.   I have even gone so far as to re install TT.

Actually  Randy Fremont's post is the trick.   It looks like TT did not refill out the information on Form8801  Section A. that was previously there when they did their bug fix.    When I manually entered in this data from my previous  TT tax year then line 25 actually populated correctly.

Therefore, if you run into this issue go to Forms view and fill out section A of form 8801 from your previous tax year per the questions on the tax form.  This will ensure you get your maximum refund.  Then check to see that line 25 picked the right value.
