1099R

I entered the information as shown on Form 1099-R and the box 2a has a total of $51000.  This amount includes $21000 which went in checks to Charitable Causes and $30000 should be taxed but TurboTax shows that all is not taxed.

To report a qualified charitable contribution, the following must occur:

  • Report an IRA distribution,
  • Form 1099-R code 7 in box 7, and
  • Taxpayer must be at least 70 1/2 years old.
  • Enter the 1099-R and answer questions until you get to the screen Transfer to Charity?
  • Click on You had part of this distribution transferred to charity.
  • At the screen How much was sent to charity? enter the amount of the charitable contribution.
  • Click Continue.
