I have already begun to enter the 1099 information sent me from my financial planner company. Now I might prefer to download from them. Will the download overlay in the correct areas or do I have to go through and delete everything I have already entered.

See this answer from 2019. Apparently you must delete all information you previously entered before you can successfully download a form.

If I were you, I would just go ahead and manually enter the data rather than try to delete it all.
