1099-SA

No, that is not correct. If you used your health savings account money for qualified medical expenses, then it is not taxable. Was there a distribution code 1 on your 1099-SA? To correctly report it in TurboTax:

  1. Go to Federal > Wages & Income > Less Common Income > 1099-SA, HSA, MSA and click Start/Revisit.
  2. Make sure you have HSA selected.
  3. Answer Yes to Did you use your HSA to pay for anything in 2021?
  4. Enter your 1099-SA exactly as it is reported to you, including the distribution code, which should be 1.
  5. Answer Yes to Did you spend your HSA money on medical expenses only?
  6. Continue through the HSA questionnaire until you see the Your HSA Summary screen. It should list $96 as total distributions with $0 as taxable distributions.
