1099-R is necessary?

TurboTax has created a 1099-R for me, and I didn’t receive a 1099-R from anyone. I have a 401k, and I have an IRA that I created in 2020 (for calendar year 2019) and I did a backdoor Roth conversion on that IRA. But I have not received any distributions from any retirement accounts. Can anyone tell me why Turbotax created one for me? It’s a problem becuase TurboTax won’t let me do an e-file unless I put in the “Payer Address Information”. Can I just delete the 1099-R? If so, how? Once information gets into TuboTax, I don’t know how to delete it.

TurboTax does not create a 1099-R if you did not say that you had one.

If you did not take a distribution on 2019 then you would not have a 1099-R.     If you had a distribution and 1099-R in 2018 and transferred ro 2019 then it probably carried over.

Go to the 1099-R interview andEnter a 1099-R here:

    Federal Taxes,
    Wages & Income
(I'll choose what I work on - if that screen comes up)
    Retirement Plans & Social Security,
IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).

OR  Use the "Tools" menu (if online version left side) and then "Search Topics" for "1099-R" which will take you to the same place.

Fixed… I found the menu item that allows me to delete the 1099-R.  After I deleted it, I ran the error check and everything passed.  I was able to e-File.  I’m still not sure why the 1099-R form was created in the first place, but it’s all good now.

Elect to start/update the 1099-R section. Then if asked if you have a 1099-R answer YES. Then (and only then) will you see a 1099-R entry if one exists, with a delete button next to it. Delete it.
