Received a 1099-NEC for when I volunteered for medical research. Do I still have to file that, no taxes were withheld and didn't know what category that falls under.

When you report the 1099-NEC the interview will give you the option to report that the income was not due to a business. You will then pay regular income tax but not self employment tax.
