Yes, you can enter the 1099-NEC as you described if you are not self-employed. You will be able to see this income on Line 8 of your 1040. When you pay for TurboTax you will be able to view your forms.
RECEIVED A 1099 NEC FIRST TIME FOR 2023
TUBO TAX IS TREATING IT LIKE A BUSINESS I RUN
SHOULD IT NOT GO UNDER PERSONAL INCOME INSTEAD OF BUSINESS INCOME ?
Why did you get it? Most 1099NEC are for self employment income.
Yes you are the owner of your own self employment business. You are in business for yourself. Use your own info. The people or company that pays you is your customer or client. You are considered to have your own business for it. YOU are the business.
You need to fill out schedule C for self employment business income and pay self employment tax in addition to regular income tax on it. The SE tax is to pay Social Security and Medicare tax that wasn't taken out like on a W2.
For 2024 taxes, if you don't own a business, and you receive a 1099-NEC...
Report the income on Line 8Z (other income) of Schedule 1 of 1040, and on Line 8 of 1040.
Deduct associated expenses on Line 24Z (other adjustments) of Schedule 1 of 1040, and on Line 10 of 1040.
If the software doesn't let you, bring in the forms in front of you and force the entries. Hope this helps.
You must include the 1099-NEC as income. If it is not from contract work or other self-employed income, follow these steps. Online and desktop have a little difference but this should get you through either one.
