Hello,
I received a settlement check, and the tax forms (1099-MISC and CA 592-B) provided do not have my SSN. (Long story short, they have my maiden name but correct address, they couldn't find me with the SSA, sent me a W-9 asking for my SSN, but I thought it was a scam so I ignored.) Now that I have the check, I tried calling the payer for corrected forms, and they told me they could not give me them because the check had been issued. This seems weird to me because the IRS website says to contact the payer for a corrected form, but the payer was firm that I could not get corrected forms and had to contact my "tax specialist." (I would think they would've wanted my SSN for tax purposes on their end, but okay.)
1) That said, I just want to know - will there be any issues on my end if the forms 1099-MISC and 592-B do not have my SSN on them, and I file? Any additional action needed on my part at this point?
2) I use Turbo Tax and will obviously be claiming this on my Federal Taxes, as well as state. I live in IL. Since the state of the payer is CA, knowing what I know about taxes, I'll have to file an additional state for CA state taxes since there is no reciprocity with IL, right?
