What happens if a vendor sends a 1099 and the filer neglects to include it in their tax return?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Copies of form(s) 1099 are sent to he IRS so they are able to cross-reference them with your tax return and will know if you did not report it. The IRS would send you a notice and you would have to rectify it. There may be penalties and interest.
If you left Form 1099 off of your tax return, you can amend your tax return to include it.
If you are amending your 2024 tax return, you have to wait until your original return has been accepted by the IRS.
If you are amending your 2024 tax return and you filed your original 2024 tax return in TurboTax you will be able to e-file your amended return. There are some circumstances where you will be unable to e-file your amended 2024 return and you will have to mail it in. TurboTax will tell you if it has to be mailed.
If you prepared your original tax return using TurboTax Online, log in to your account, open the tax return you already filed, and click on the link to amend your return.
