I received a 1098-T for $25, which is a technology fee. I don't care about any related tax deductions for this amount. Tuition is waived, because I am a senior citizen and am not getting any credit for the course. I am only auditing it. Do I need to file this 1098-T? My ss# is not printed on the form, which I understand can result in a $50 penalty. Do I have to have the university amend the 1098-T? Seems like a waste of time in my case. I would appreciate any feedback; I have not been able to get through to the SSA.

No, you do not need to include the 1098-T on your tax return since you are not taking any type of credit and would not be eligible for one since you are not getting any credit for the course.
Will I be fined the $50 for not having provided my SSN for the University to include on the 1098-T?
No, the 1098-T is an informational form.
You were not obligated to provide your Social Security number for your 1098-T since it is not reporting any sort of income.
