1095-NEC Received for a College Grant to Write an Open Textbook

My wife received a grant to write the digital edition of an open textbook. She didn't have any expense and this was in addition to her regular salary. She received a regular W-2 from her employer as an assistant professor, and a 1095-NEC from another college which has a partnership with her employer (bi-co).

TT seems to suggest she has a writing business, etc. but she obviously doesn't, this was simply a one time job/grant. How should we proceed?

1095-NEC Received for a College Grant to Write an Open Textbook

If your wife received a Grant to write on Open Textbook she will enter it in TurboTax as income not subject to self-employment tax.

To report her Grant in TurboTax follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your TurboTax account if it is not open.
  2. Select the Wages & Income tab.
  3. Scroll down to Less common income click Show more.
  4. On the page Let's Work on Any Miscellaneous Income click on Other reportable income.
  5. On the page Any Other Taxable Income?  select yes.
  6. On the page, Other Taxable Income enter Grant for the description and the amount.
  7. Select continue and answer No on the next page.
