Landscaping Buisness

How does the new act and laws affect Landscapers who install Landscaping, Waterfalls, and Etc. Plus maintain it? Also if you purchase new windows for your house last year and installed them this year does that count? What other home improvements count? Does Paint and structure repairs count?  Does Landscaping count as an improvement?

Hi - while the Inflation Reduction Act recognizes and funds landscape architecture approaches to address climate change — from active transportation projects like Complete Streets and recreational trails, to nature-based water infrastructure, community tree planting, ecosystem restoration, and more.  However this may come in the form of a grant for example or local funding, but currently there are no tax credits or other incentives from a tax perspective included.

As for the Energy Credit for windows, t
he credit was extended to 2022 with the Inflation Reduction Act, and is worth 10% of the costs of installing certain energy-efficient insulation, windows, doors, roofing, and similar energy-saving improvements in your home. There is a $200 lifetime limit for new windows.  However, beginning in 2023, there are expansions to the credit - the max will be $600 for exterior windows and skylights.

The Inflation Reduction Act also expands the credit limits:

Beginning in 2023, they will be:

  • $150 for home energy audits;
  • $250 for an exterior door ($500 total for all exterior doors);
  • $600 for exterior windows and skylights; central air conditioners; electric panels and certain related equipment; natural gas, propane, or oil water heaters; natural gas, propane, or oil furnaces or hot water boilers; and
  • $2,000 for electric or natural gas heat pump water heaters, electric or natural gas heat pumps, and biomass stoves and boilers (for this one category, the $1,200 annual limit may be exceeded).
Improvements such as paint, and other general improvements are not eligible for an energy improvement.
