Child tax credit 2022 error

I did not receive my full child tax credit. However the letter (6419) that I received showed that I did. But that is not what ended up in my bank account through direct deposit. I filed my taxes according to what the letter said but I want to claim my remaining $$. What should I do?

Check your online account with the IRS to see what it shows.   And check your bank account for deposits made between July and December of 2021.   What is on line 28 of your 2021 Form 1040?

Check your IRS account---does the IRS say they sent you a payment that you did not receive? (If you filed a joint return you need to check for both spouses.)   If so you can ask for a trace to be put on the payment.

If you need to trace a payment that the IRS says has been issued to you, mail or fax a completed IRS Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund

Child tax credit 2022 error

The letter (6419) only shows the amount of Advanced child tax credit (ACTC).  These were the monthly deposits you received from July - December of 2021;  they were meant to be an "advance" of the child tax credit you would eventually receive.  So if you received $1,000 in payments from July to December, your child tax credit ($3,000 per child above age 5) would be $2,000.

Child tax credits have their own form this year (2021) - Schedule 8812.  Check that form to see that you properly reported your advance payments - that amount is reported on Line 14f.  Since the advanced payments did not exceed the child tax credit you were entitled to, the amount of remaining child tax credit should be on Line 14j; it is also reported on your Form 1040 (page 2) on Line 28.  Check those numbers to make sure you were able to claim your entire tax credit.
