Do I need to go through all of the steps of entering deductions, credits and expenses if I am taking the standard deduction?

Youre asking from the Self Employed version....your self employment income and expenses are completely separate from the standard or itemized deduction part of the return.

So if you're referring to your self employment expenses, they still need to be entered.

Itemized deductions may not benefit you on the federal return so you use the standard deduction, but the itemized deductions could very well help on the state return.
