If I babysat for 1 child and she claims what she paid me for child care by using my social security number. Will I? lose a lot of money on my own taxes?

You must claim that income (and pay self-employment as well as regular tax on it), regardless of whether the mother claims the Child Care Credit.

What she does has no impact on your tax return.

Your tax or refund is based on your income alone and not what anyone else reports.   As long as you report all of your income, you have nothing to worry about.   Of course, if someone else deducts what they paid you for child care and you *don't* report it then the IRS probably will be asking you why you did not report it, but as long as you do report it then they would have nothing to ask about.

Assuming you haven;t made estimated tax payments for this babysitting income, the taxes you owe on it will make any refund you would otherwise get go down.

It also depends on the nature of the job.   If babysitting in the child's home you would probably be a household employee under the direction and control of the parent and should be issued a W-2 by the employer if paid over $1,200 or if sitting in your home (as a child care provider) you would probably be  self-employed and need to file a schedule C and Schedule SE if paid more than $400.
