I am a doctor. I need to become board certified this year. Certification is required to keep my job at the hospital. Is this tax deductible?

I am already board qualified.  I am already employed by the hospital and have been working there for 6 years.  I am already licensed to practice in my state.  The certification exam is $1,750.00.  Many insurance companies require certification that I have contracts with as well and if I don't become certified, they would terminate our contracts.  Thanks.

Yes, it is a tax deductible expense.

If you are an employee, the deduction is reported as a job-related expense:

1. Federal Taxes
2. Deductions & Credits (you may have to select See all tax breaks)
3. Employment Expenses
4. Job-related Expenses

If you are self-employed, it is your regular business expense.
