Why is one of my two children only giving a $500 credit, while the other child gives the full $2,000 Child tax credit? One child is 14, the other 17.

The 17 year old is no longer eligible for the Child Tax Credit.  They are now eligible for the Other Dependent Credit of $500.

Because a child 17 or older is only eligible for the Other Dependent Credit.
