It could happen if your vehicle doesn't meet qualification requirements. The 100 percent bonus depreciation rule applies to heavy SUVs, trucks, and vans that are used more than 50% for business purposes. New and used vehicles can qualify, but the law requires that the vehicle be new to you and your business.
Right. And this is a truck, purchased in 2019, that is used 100% for work purposes. TurboTax is auto filling the forms in vehicle deductions based on actual expenses, and then during completecheck it’s giving be a bunch of problem screens and this particular issue cannot be resolved by choosing ANY of the options being provided, and I have no way of editing these specific forms (that I know of.)
This depreciation is allowable for the first year and you said it was purchased in 2019.
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) allows unlimited 100% first-year bonus depreciation for qualifying new and used assets (including eligible vehicles) that are acquired and placed in service between September 28, 2017, and December 31, 2022.
Bonus depreciation must be taken in the first year that the depreciable item is placed in service. However, businesses can elect not to use bonus depreciation and instead depreciate the property over a longer period if they find that advantageous.
I am having the exact same problem!!
Were you able to fix it?
Otherwise I guess Turbo-tax is forcing us to have to print and mail our returns.
To be eligible for the Special Depreciation Allowance, the asset must be purchased this year. The SDA is only available for assets in the first year of service.
