If you are a W-2 employee, job-related expenses are not deductible on a federal return.
No. Starting in 2018, employees (W-2 recipients) are no longer able to deduct any job expenses.
Even in the "old days" you only got to deduct that portion of your misc. itemized deductions deductions that exceeded 2% of your AGI, and then only if your total itemized deductions exceeded the standard deduction (which was doubled under the 2018 tax law. . (2% rule explained: https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2902781-what-is-the-2-rule)
I read that Nursing uniforms are dectible.
"You may be able to deduct the cost and upkeep of work clothes if the following two requirements are met:
- You must wear them as a condition of your employment.
- The clothes are not suitable for everyday wear.
It is not enough that you wear distinctive clothing. The clothing must be specifically required by your employer. Nor is it enough that you do not, in fact, wear your work clothes away from work. The clothing must not be suitable for taking the place of your regular clothing.
Examples of workers who may be able to deduct the cost and upkeep of work clothes are: delivery workers, fire fighters, health care workers, law enforcement officers,"

As already answered on this thread, if you are an employee, receiving a W-2, the employee business expenses are not deductible on a federal tax return.
@earlysail If you are a W-2 employee your job-related expenses are not deductible on your federal return. Sorry. That law changed for 2018 and beyond.
