It depends.
If you indicated the donation was valued at over $5,000 on your tax return and you do not have an appraisal report and have no way of getting one, you may need to amend your return once it is accepted by the taxing agency.
Depending upon how the donation was made and if it was made to more than one charity, you could still take some of the donation as a deduction if you have a receipt from the charity for the donations.
Please see the following for more information on they type of support you need to have for donations.
Do I need to have a receipt for my donation
See the attached link for instructions to help you amend your return.
Once I e-file my California return. Do I have to mail a copy of my 8283 with the appraisal as the IRS requires?
If yes, does California have an equivalent to the IRS form 8453?
I already have the 8453 & the 8283 signed by the CPA who prepared the appraisal and me as the trustee of the receiving CRUT.
This is a donation of $523,000 to a CRUT.
The California FTB accepts a copy of your Federal Form 8383, with signed appraisal, for your donation over $500.

Thank you for your prompt attention.
Final question:
Can I e-file the California return and then mail the 8283. If yes, do I just mail the signed 8283 and appraisal with the irs form that indicates that the return was e-file or do I have to mail the entire California return.
Thanks, jm
Just the 8283 and supporting documentation along with form 8453.
