What if the Federal declared disaster event was June 29th ? 2022 tax filing was previously amended (by 4/15/23) to extend to 10/15/23. Does that mean (1) that I can have until 10/31/23 to file without a penalty? and (2) can I still make an IRA deduction by 1/16 or 10/31 to help off set self employed income?
did not mean to use the word "AMENDED" above. Meant to say "EXTENDED" OR EXTENSION WAS FILE BY 4/15/23
also a typo in last part of question. Can I still make an IRA contribution by 10/16 or 10/31 if I am in a Federal disaster area from a June 29th event? Geesh, can you tell I'm tired of working on these taxes!

If you are referring to a June 29, 2023 federally declared disaster in Illinois, then the IRS allows the 2022 tax return to be filed up through October 31, 2023. It does not allow a 2022 IRA contribution payment to be extended. The IRA contribution for 2022 still had to be made on or before April 17, 2023.
