If you purchased a vehicle for which you can get an energy credit, and you purchased it in 2021, then you have to enter that on your 2021 tax return. You have provided no details about the car, so we do not know if it qualified for credit or for how much. Amend your 2021 return to include it

If you bought a new, qualified plug-in electric vehicle (EV) in 2022 or before, you may be eligible for a clean vehicle tax credit up to $7,500 under Internal Revenue Code Section 30D.

The maximum credit is $7,500. It is nonrefundable, so you can't get back more on the credit than you owe in taxes. You can't apply any excess credit to future tax years.
Note: If you missed claiming a credit for an electric vehicle purchased before 2022, you may be able to claim it by filing an amended return for the tax year when you took possession of the vehicle.
