What box do I check to claim energy tax credit for tankless hot water heater (gas with energy factor > 0.82) bought in 2017? Cannot find right box to check.

Online TurboTax community suggests that "You can claim a credit for the tankless hot water heater if it meets the following requirements: ... energy factor > 0.82, but there is no box under TurboTax  Home Energy Credit section that covers non-solar hot water heaters.  At least I couldn't find it.  Any help welcome.

To enter Home Energy Credits -

• Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
• Click on Deductions and Credit
• Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
• Under Your Home
• On Home Energy Credits, click the start or update button

Or enter home energy improvement in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen.  Click on Jump to home energy improvement

On the screen Tell Us How Much You Paid for Energy-Saving Improvements -

For HVAC, electric heat pump water heater, natural gas, propane, or oil water heater, and a stove that burns biomass fuel to heat your home or heat water.  Enter the cost in the box labeled Energy-Efficient Building Property.

But none of the boxes on the "Tell Us How Much You Paid for Energy-Saving Improvements" page are for a non-solar water heater.  That's my problem.

According to my local gas company, this tax credit just got added back in (had expired as of Dec 2016), but renewed as part of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018.  So is TurboTax up-to-date?

Yes, the software has been updated to reflect the Nonbusiness Energy Property Credit which was added back as an extender to tax year 2017 by the legislation passed and signed into law in February 2018.

All the boxes shown on the screen "Tell Us How Much You Paid for Energy-Saving Improvements" are for the Nonbusiness Energy Property Credit.  Enter your cost for the water heater in the box "Energy-Efficient Building Property" as previously stated in the Answer.
