Unfortunately, you can no longer claim these as losses on your return. 

Under the new tax laws, the deduction for personal casualty or theft losses has been suspended through tax year 2025, unless the loss occurred in a federally-declared disaster area and was directly caused by the disaster.

Are you filing a state return with one of these states? AL, AR, CA, HI, IA, MN, MO, and NY.
They do not conform to the federal law TTJohn mentions. If so, please reply back and I'll outline how to enter the loss that may be deductible in that state after AGI limitations, etc..

Thank you. I am not filing in any of those states. I am in Michigan.
