Turbotax will not allow me to enter "Tax Exempt" in the EIN section of the Child Care Expense section. Also tried "Other"

Not able to fill out one of my kid's childcare providers.  It's a tax-exempt organization (school district).  I looked at my return last year and the EIN section says "TAXEXEMPT."  When I try to fill it out this year, it's forcing me to enter an EIN, does not allow me to enter text (only allows numbers) and clicking the Other>Tax Exempt Organization section doesn't work.  I tried to file my taxes anyway, but said this was an error causing me to not be able to e-file.  How can I appropriately enter this provider if it's tax-exempt and thus no EIN?

Thank you so much for sharing this specific information. I followed the steps you outlined and observed the same behavior. I will follow up on that but in the mean time believe I have a workaround to allow you to proceed with your return.

In the boxes for Provider Name and Name (contd), please enter part of the name in the top box and part in the 2nd box. When I did this, it accepted the entries and allowed me to proceed.

To add more context:

Here is what I entered into the TurboTax form:

- Click "Other" Button

    - Click "Business" (because it's not an individual)

    - Enter the providers name (public school district)

    - Click "Tax-Exempt Organization"

- Fill out Address section

- Enter amount paid

After all that, I click "Continue," but the page just refreshes and remains on the care provider info section.

I am having this exact same problem with a tax exempt organization. I have no EIN, it's a church. It just goes back to the same page to continue filling out the EIN. I've clicked: "other" "business" and filled in the name/address and clicked "tax exempt". Doesn't let me continue to next page and shows as error on final review. Is there a solution?

Please refer to the post by TeresaM above. We are aware of this experience. Until an update is released, please enter the name of your provider in two segments - one portion in the Provider Name box, and the other in the second box. This allows you to choose "Tax Exempt" with no EIN required.

Hi there, it is now July 29th and there is still no update to this. Entering the name in two parts as described works for the initial entry but not the final entry. In the review it requires an EIN number or I cannot e-file. Is there a way to type in EXEMPT on the form?

If you don't have an EIN then you can choose tax exempt however you will have to mail in the return.   FYI ... churches and tax exempt entities DO HAVE  EINs especially if they have a day care program   ... just ask them for it.
