@BillM223 Thank you very much for your reply and for putting such effort into investigating this. I really appreciate it.
I agree there isn't a single right answer. But there are obviously wrong answers. And it seems to me that if your SEHID is coming out thousands of dollars greater than the total amount you paid out of pocket including premiums you paid originally plus any APTC repayment, something has gone wrong. I can't imagine you can pay under $2000 total for health insurance and get an over $5000 deduction. But that's what TurboTax is doing in some of these scenarios where it gives the APTC repayment limit but then doesn't reduce the SEHID accordingly in light of that repayment limit.
Yes, your Case #2 resembles my situation. But in my case TurboTax is not reducing the SEHID to account for the repayment limitation as it is in your example.
I could send in a token and I agree that would make more sense than you trying random numbers to replicate what I'm seeing.
But I have two questions:
1. If I send in a token, it sends in the return as it is at that point in time, correct? If I send it and then make changes to my return after sending it, you will still have the numbers as they were at the time I sent it? I ask because I am still often fiddling around with my return. But I could go in, set the numbers as they were when I saw the problem, and send in the token at that point, and then go back to fiddling and you'll see it as it was when I sent it? In other words, it's sending you a copy of the return frozen in time, not access to the return as it is at the time you access it?
2. If I send a token, can you promise to take a look at it and post back here about it very promptly? I've seen some threads on this forum where people were told to send in a token and then, after they did, the person who asked disappeared. It's getting really close to the tax deadline so I'm very anxious to get some answers if possible.
Thank you. Once I hear back I may get a token to post here.
@BillM223 Can you please reply to my previous post with questions regarding sending you a token to take a look at?
Hello! I had a similar problem. Have you had any success with Turbo Tax reflecting your numbers correctly? My SEHID was very high and did not take into account the limit on the repayment of excess PTC. It was giving me the full amount as a deductible as a footnote at the end of Form 7206. Then I realized I made a mistake and adjusted one of my expenses for my business. Once I did that, thinking the amount I owe would go down, instead the amount I owed went up. The only thing that changed was the new SEHID reflected correctly with a smaller amount that took into account my limit on repayment of excess PTC. Not sure what happened with the earlier number giving me the full deductible and then the new number reflecting it correctly. So I guess I fixed mine unknowingly! Thanks!
