Standard deductions for 2017 

  • Single - $6,350 add $1,550 if age 65 or older
  • Married Filing Separately - $6,350 add $1,250 if age 65 or older
  • Married Filing Jointly - $12,700 add $1,250 for each spouse age 65 or older
  • Head of Household - $9,350 add $1,550 if age 65 or older

Turbo tax is taking a 7900 standard deduction for me as single; the form says the deduction is 6350. What is the discrepancy?

The IRS allows you to add an additional $1,550 to your Standard Deduction if you are over the age of 65 and filing Single.      

($6,350 + $1,550 = $7,900).
