Tuition deposit towards private preschool

I paid a $2,000 tuition deposit to a private preschool. The school is a 501c3 non-profit organization. My son did not attend the school. Can the tuition deposit be considered a charitable donation, since we did not receive anything in return for it?

You could deduct this payment as a donation if the school accepts to deliver you a donation receipt for the amount as this is the condition for deduction of a charitable donation.
