My wife has an eligible HSA through her employer and maxed it out at $6,750 for 2017 (Family plan including me). Can I open and deposit $1,000 'catchup' to my individual HSA account? I am over 55 and she is not.

If you were age 55 or over in 2017, yes, you can make a catch-up contribution for yourself to your own HSA. The deadline for making the contribution is April 17, 2018.
