The Deductions and Credits screen is not designed to show your HSA payroll contributions in box 12 with code W on your W-2.

The Deductions and Credits screen shows the amount of “personal” contributions that you made directly to the HSA outside of your employer. This amount also appears on line 12 on Schedule 1 (1040).

The amount entered in box 12 with a code of W on the W-2 is considered “employer” contributions, because your payroll deductions and your employer’s contributions (if any) are treated the same way – that is, they are both removed from Wages in boxes 1, 3, and 5 on your W-2.

Since the employer contributions are not even reported in your income, they don’t show up on the Deductions and Credits screen, because they don’t get reported as a deduction. It’s OK because they were never reported in your income in the first place.

Double check your W-2 input. If you have an entry in Box 12 with a code W, then go to the HSA Contribution screen delete the entry, unless you made other HSA contributions besides through your work.

Please follow the instructions below for editing your HSA contributions below if you are using TurboTax Online:

1.       Click on Federal (sidebar)

2.       Click on Deductions & Credits (top)

3.       Look in your list for HSA, MSA Contributions and go to step 5; otherwise, continue to step 4

4.       Click Medical Expense Deduction

5.       Click Start/Review next to HSA, MSA Contributions

6.       Follow through the prompts, when you get to the screen that says Enter Your HSA Contributions, you can put additional contributions made after-tax from your own funds (take home pay, savings, etc.) as All Other Contributions.

8.       This page will automatically pull in your W-2 contributions from you and your employer that were pre-tax.

9.       Complete the rest of the related interview questions

That's the problem - my W2 entry cleary has the correct amount and the code W - but the correct amount is not transferring over to the contribution page as stated. I changed the amount for $750 (employer contributed amount) to $5750 (includes the amount I contributed also - but only the $750 is showing up on the worksheet. I updated my W2 information, but it's not transferring. I've logged out twice, verified the W2 shows $5750 and W - but worksheet still shows only $750.
