The basis of inherited property is the fair market value (FMV) of the property on the date of the decedent's death.  So you would use the fair market value the day he passed in 2006.

The basis of inherited property is the fair market value (FMV) of the property on the date of the decedent's death.  So you would use the fair market value the day he passed in 2006.
