sold RSU. 1099-B does not show the cost basis.

Hi

I sold RSU. 1099-B does not show the cost basis. I have the cost basis information available.

Once I import the 1099-B into Turbo Tax, should I manually add the cost basis information?

Since the broker would have filed with IRS without the cost basis info, I am not sure if there will be confusion on IRS side due to data mismatch.

the 1099-B should be coded as either short term with code B - basis not reported to IRS or long-term code E - cost basis not reported to IRS.   in such cases entering your cost basis should not create an issue. codes B and E are quite common on 1099-Bs, I have had them and never heard a peep from the IRS.  When I worked for CPA firms most clients that sold securities also had codes B and E  on their 1099-B's. none of then were ever contacted by the IRS, at least to the best of my knowledge, about the cost basis they used.

On 1099B it says basis is not reported to the IRS.

It is being considered as short term profit.

On Turbo Tax it is being marked under the sub category of Box X : Unknown holding period and Box 2 : No entry for gain or loss.

Reality is that it is Long Term Profit
