Hi all,
So, Turbo Tax software seems dumb this year. What has happened to Intuit?? I've been using for 30 years- so much worse.
Anyway, filing my (single, no dependants) daughter's return with her and it generated a schedule 8812. Which of course is not applicable. Looks like it is because I entered the $1400 for the 3rd stimulus check she received. Again, she is neither our dependent nor has any dependants. Seems like a glitch in the software. 8812 is for child tax credit??? All of the questions in the info section were answered correctly.
Any ideas? Thanks so much in advance!

Everyone has to answer whether they received advance child tax credit payments. If you did not receive any of those payments between July and December you need to answer that you did not receive any payments.
There are so many scenarios with those payments---like divorced/never married parents who have issues over who received the payments, who claimed the children, etc. --- the software has no way of knowing if any of that involves you---so you have to answer the questions about it.
Please follow these steps to indicate you did not receive any advanced payments:

Well, many thanks - that did it!
I had reviewed all the "interview" questions and saw nothing that triggered the 8812. In any case, yea!
Enjoy your day!
These steps are wrong. There is no Jump to Child Tax Credit. Your interview is flawed. You're asked up front if you have dependents. When you answer no, that should eliminate this schedule. You need to fix this and you should take this answer down because it's wrong.

Then the interview should pose the question when it asks about dependents. It shouldn't flag it at the end as an error and leave users wondering what's wrong. That's the purpose of a useful interview.
Why would this Schedule be generated when we already state we did not receive any advanced payments. Wasted step.
