Can I claim a, (stepchild of my stepchild) as a dependent? Specifically does she meet the relationship requirement?

Thank you Bsch4477 for answering. I am concerned about the word, "decedent." The child I am asking about is technically not a decedent but a step grandchild by marriage. Does she qualify as a dependent? Sorry to ask again. Thank you for your patience.

You marry spouse thus your spouse's children are your step children or in IRS terms your child due to the marriage.

This child (step) had kids ... those kids are your grandchildren (not step) due to the marriage to spouse ... this holds even if you divorce the spouse.

Hence they do qualify since they are a descendant of your IRS child.
