When and how do you apply for the recovery rebate for stimulus check #3?

The IRS pays this automatically.  Go to Get My Payment on the IRS website.

If you don't get the third stimulus payment in advance in 2021 then you will apply for it on the 2021 return you file next year ... you cannot do it any sooner.

I received my Stimulus Check #3, and it is over $4000 short.  So I wait a year from now and deal with the rebate on my 2021 taxes?

At this time that is how it is being handled ... just like they did with the 2020 stimulus payments.  If the stimulus was sent out based on the 2019 return then when they process the 2020 return they "may" send the balance but don't count on it since it didn't happen with the first 2 payments.

Ok thanks,  my 2020 taxes were accepted and refund paid at least 2 weeks prior to receiving stimulus check # 3.
