Windows Turbo Tax -- File Menu Broken

The Windows drop-down File menu in Turbo Tax 2022 for Windows does not function.  Clicking the File menu causes a Windows "Not Responding" message to appear in the Turbo Tax Title Bar.

It shouldn't be necessary to point out that this is a serious bug.  It prevents being able to save the tax return at will.

Just a suggestion.

Shut down your TTX, then check for any "Windows" software updates.  One was released last week.

Install and reboot.    Reboot even if you have no waiting Windows updates.

Restart your computer...wait 10 minutes, the start up TTX and see what happens then.

Windows Turbo Tax -- File Menu Broken

This is a TurboTax bug associated with imports from select brokers.  I know it occurs after Fidelity imports.   It has not been fixed and occurs in the most recent versions of TurboTax and Windows 10.

Windows Turbo Tax -- File Menu Broken

To update my initial problem report, I have a kludgy workaround that works for my Windows 10 computer.  Still I want to insist that this is a serious bug that Intuit should have fixed by now.

When you initially click on the "File" drop down menu you may notice that nothing happens.  That is to say, no File drop down menu appears.  Another responder to this problem report links this problem to having downloaded financial data from a brokerage firm.

Wait a bit after the first click attempt -- at least 30 seconds.  Then try a second mouse click.  At this point you may eventually see (if you look closely) a very dim drop-down menu to the left of the Turbo Tax window.  It is hard to see because its transparency level is quite high.  Looking closely at the drop-down menu you may see the menu choice you want to select.  Click on that item and you may find Turbo Tax rewards you with the desired behavior.

To summarize the kludge, keep trying, be patient, and scrutinize the screen for a very transparent File drop-down menu.

As workarounds, you can use ctrl-S to save and ctrl-P to print/preview/open then save as PDF. The top line in step-by-step has choices for Filing which will get you to E-filing, etc.

The File Menu problem appears to have been fixed in the version 22 ending in 564 which I installed on 4/1/23.  I want to thank everyone that contributed to the community in helping to diagnosis and solve this issue.
