TEACHER EXPENSES. EDUCATOR EXPENSES DEDUCTION
Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Employment Expenses>Teacher (Educator) Expenses
https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc458
Teacher expenses are included in the Deductions and Credits section of TurboTax under Employment expenses.
I have entered my teacher expenses in the educator expenses area - but TT says I am not eligible as I earlier said I have no expenses. I cannot find where to go back and correct this - can you please help??
To correct your answer, revisit the Teacher (Educator) expense under Employment expenses in the Federal Deductions and Credits section, you should be able to change your answer on the screen Did you spend your own money as a teacher in 2024? to Yes
If you’re a K-12 teacher buying your own classroom supplies, you can deduct up to $300 from these expenses.
unfortunately, it does not take me to that question. I click the Employment Expenses, Visit All and it takes me directly to "How much did you spend in Educator Expenses" screen. When I put in an amount, it says I am not eligible because I did not enter eligible expenses earlier and tells me to correct it - but does not allow me to go to that screen! Very frustrating!!
Try skipping the Visit All and go directly to educator expenses. When you click on Start next to Educator expenses, the first question has to be answered YES. @kwbhou If that doesn't work, let us know whether you are using the desktop software or not.
It does not take me to that question. I am using desktop, and even called in and had a virtual session with the help desk. She couldn't figure it out either
Sorry - NO - I am using Online NOT desktop
If you are using TurboTax Online you can do the following to enter your "Teacher Expenses."
Mine does not look like that - I don't have the column on the left. Is it possible that I have desktop but had to download it?
You need to figure out if you are using desktop download or online software.
Online software has the toolbar in a black vertical column on the left side of the screen.
Desktop software has the tools up on the top of your TT screen.
Here are the desktop screens @kwbhou
Thank you - it is Desktop
I appreciate you trying to help, but 100% it is not coming up that way, Even when I called for help and they did a screen share, the Turbo Tax help person could not figure it out. I know it won't make a huge difference, but this is the first time I have had trouble like this with TT, and I am really frustrated!
